Warm Up with Hygge Vibes – A Cozy Trend

When temperatures begin to drop and the holiday season rolls in, there’s nothing quite like snuggling up indoors. This is nothing new for the Danes—they’ve been taking part in the practice of hygge for decades. Hygge is the Nordic art of creating a cozy home atmosphere! In fact, it’s defined as “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.”

From warm lighting to wonderful smells and good conversation, hygge is all about mastering that warm and fuzzy feeling. Picture it: a crackling fire burning in the fire place, snow falling outside your window, a cup of sweet hot cocoa (topped with a toasted marshmallow, of course!), a fuzzy blanket, a good book, the smell of holiday cookies wafting from the kitchen, and the soundtrack from Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” on the record player.

Artesano Montagne Brings That Warm Feeling to Your Table

With the Artesano Montagne collection from Villeroy & Boch, you can easily bring some hygge vibes into your home. Artesano Montagne sets the stage for a cozy, cabin-like feeling. The design of the collection is inspired by traditional Scandinavian knitting patterns—featuring the timeless snowflake and little diamond pattern in warm grey and deep red hues on premium white porcelain. Artesano Montagne is both rustic and modern.

The collection includes a range of plates, mugs, and bowls that are dishwasher- and microwave-safe—and pair perfectly with the grainy acacia wood and cork products from the Artesano Original collection. Accent your table with gorgeous goblets from our Boston Coloured collection (we recommend Smoke and Red) to complete a chic winter chalet look.

Choosing the Right Dinnerware

Having a fine china collection used to be thought of as something you’d use only for special occasions. While it is nice to have designated tableware and serveware for such instances, why not also enjoy the patterns and styles you love to inspire your everyday table? Beautiful dinnerware and crystal can bring a touch of glamour to your daily life that you surely deserve. Think of dinnerware as a little black dress—you can dress it up for formal occasions or dress it down for a more casual look! Whether you’re moving into your first home or apartment or starting your life as a newlywed, you can make selecting a dinnerware collection easy with these tips from Villeroy & Boch!

Choosing the Right Dinnerware

There are quite a few things to consider when choosing your dinnerware. It’s more than just picking a pattern that suits your personal style. You have to consider the material that it’s made from as well. Think of it as an investment—something that you’ll use every day, have for years to come, and may even pass down to future generations!

The Right Material

Dinnerware can be made from a variety of materials, like stoneware, earthenware, and porcelain. When you hear the words “porcelain,” or “china” the words “fragile” and “delicate” may come to mind, but the reality is that porcelain is actually the strongest and most durable material when it comes to tableware—especially everyday use tableware. If you invest more money up front, you’ll spend less in the long run; settling for a cheaper set means that it will most likely need replacing, and as a result, you’ll be spending more than if you were to invest in a more expensive set from the start.

Isabelle von Boch’s Tips for Adding a Spring Look & Feel to Your Table: Think Green

It’s the time of year we all look forward to: winter’s chill finally gives way to the vibrant bloom of spring. Outside, things get a little sunnier and brighter. So why not bring that vibe inside? Here, Isabelle von Boch shares ideas for you to make sure your table is ready for the welcomed seasonal transition.

Isabelle’s number-one tip: add green. “Color impacts our emotions and feelings. And green, in particular, symbolizes vitality, health, prosperity and energy, and connects us with nature … so it’s essential to bring it into our homes to usher in spring.” The goal, Isabelle notes, is simple: to “bring the forces of life and nature into your space — and your heart.”

What’s more, green’s especially popular this season, as Pantone named “Greenery” (a spring-perfect light-green shade) its 2017 Color of the Year!

Below are more ideas from Isabelle for giving your space a fresh face for the new season:

Get set with spring patterns. Classic floral patterns are perfectly cut out for spring. Villeroy & Boch’s Mariefleur, for example,“…creates a whole ‘meadow effect’ — that of a true abundance of flowers,” says Isabelle. Use dinnerware that features florals, fruits, foliage and greenery, or even beautiful butterflies. These will be perfect for the warming season! One way to add these touches to your table with ease is to purchase salad plates or bowls in these vibrant patterns and to layer them atop your everyday dinnerware- and viola!- you are spring-ready.

Charge it up. Glass and porcelain chargers instantly add depth, dimension and visual interest to your table. Choose green glass chargers or premium porcelain chargers with vibrant patterns for a spring-perfect dose of color.

Add a vase (or a few). Vases are an easy way to add color to your table and your home “A vase, to me, has to be beautiful enough to be kept out always, and look beautiful even when flowers aren’t in it,” says Isabelle. Opt for vases in solid spring pastels, or with vibrant patterns to really enliven the atmosphere.

Master the mix. Spring is the best time to curate a lighthearted tone. That means forget being matchy-matchy, and vary patterns and textures — just like you would in a spring outfit. “Put a plaid or stripe tablecloth against the floral-pattern dinnerware and solid chargers,” says Isabelle. “It’ll instantly give dimension to your tablescape.”

Finish the look. Placemats, runners, napkins and even napkin rings are the perfect plus to put touches of green throughout. And don’t forget to add an element of actual nature with decorative grass or a bouquet of spring flowers. Lastly, embrace the shapes of nature and opt for porcelain pieces that mimic the forms of leaves or other natural elements.
